CrowdStrike Offers $10 Uber Eats Gift Cards After Global IT Outage Affecting 8.5 Million Devices, Some Invalid
Jul 24, 2024, 08:26 PM
CrowdStrike, the cybersecurity firm, is offering $10 Uber Eats gift cards to partners as an apology for a global IT outage caused by a botched update on July 19. The update rendered 8.5 million Windows devices unusable, resulting in significant disruptions, including airport delays and halted surgeries. The outage is estimated to have caused $15 billion in losses. Some recipients of the gift cards reported that the vouchers were invalid, as they had been canceled by the issuing party. The gesture, which was communicated via email by Chief Business Officer Daniel Bernard, has been widely criticized and mocked online.
