Federal Investigation Launched into Secret Service's Handling of Trump Rally Shooting by Thomas Matthew Crooks
Jul 17, 2024, 03:34 PM
A federal investigation is underway into the Secret Service's handling of security at a rally where former President Donald Trump was shot on July 16. The alleged shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was on the Secret Service's radar three hours before the incident on July 17 after attempting to pass through a metal detector with a rangefinder, a tool used by hunters for long shots. Despite being spotted and photographed by the Secret Service, Crooks managed to take close-range sniper shots at Trump. The Secret Service has stated that nobody was on the roof from which Trump was shot due to its slope, a claim that has been met with skepticism. Dozens of people reportedly saw Crooks crawling on the roof. So far, no one has been held accountable for this massive security failure.
