Microsoft has signed a carbon credit deal with Occidental Petroleum's unit, 1PointFive, to help offset the energy surge from its AI operations. The agreement will enable Microsoft to offset its emissions by paying Occidental Petroleum to remove carbon from the atmosphere and store it underground. This move is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to become carbon-negative by the end of the decade. Occidental, one of the largest US oil producers, will facilitate this through its carbon capture technology.
