Naomi Campbell Banned from Charity Trustee Role for Five Years Over Fashion For Relief Mismanagement
Sep 26, 2024, 04:07 PM
Supermodel Naomi Campbell has been banned from serving as a charity trustee for five years following an investigation by the UK's Charity Commission into her organization, Fashion For Relief. The inquiry found 'serious financial mismanagement' and revealed that only a tiny fraction of the millions raised by the charity's star-studded events were passed on to good causes. The investigation uncovered that the charity's funds were misused for luxury hotel rooms, spa treatments, cigarettes, and personal security for Campbell. Unauthorized payments running into hundreds of thousands were also made to one of Campbell’s fellow trustees. The Charity Commission's report highlighted that only 8.5% of Fashion for Relief's overall expenditure went to charitable grants over a six-year period starting in 2016. The ban applies to England and Wales, and the charity was identified as a poverty charity.
