Dutch Watchdog Fines Uber $324 Million for Data Transfer Violations
Aug 26, 2024, 09:55 AM
The Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) has fined Uber 290 million euros, approximately $324 million, for transferring the personal data of European taxi drivers to the United States without adequate protection, violating the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The fine is the largest ever imposed by the Dutch watchdog and marks the highest penalty Uber has faced globally. Uber has announced plans to appeal the decision, arguing that its data transfer processes were compliant with GDPR during a period of legal uncertainty between the EU and the US.
