Sumatran Orangutan Uses Akar Kuning Plant to Treat Wound
May 2, 2024, 03:51 PM
For the first time, scientists have observed a wild orangutan using a medicinal plant to treat its own wound. The male Sumatran orangutan was seen applying chewed leaves from Akar Kuning, a climbing plant known in traditional medicine for its wound-healing properties, to a big pink wound below his eyelid on his cheek. This incident, documented in a paper published by SciReports, marks a significant observation in animal behavior, highlighting the orangutan's use of natural remedies known to alleviate pain.
