Styrene Leak Prompts Evacuations in Whitewater Township, Ohio
Sep 24, 2024, 07:52 PM
A dangerous chemical leak involving styrene from a rail car has prompted mass evacuations in Whitewater Township and Cleves, Ohio. The Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency issued immediate evacuation orders for residents near U.S. Route 50 and State Route 128. Emergency and Hazmat crews are on the scene, and residents are advised to stay indoors, seal doors and windows, and turn off heating systems. The leak, which occurred around 2 p.m. following a train derailment, has been described as toxic and flammable. The leak was reportedly caused by an open valve on the train car.
