Emmy- and Peabody-Winning Journalist Richard Cohen, Husband of Meredith Vieira, Dies on Christmas Eve at 76
Jan 7, 2025, 03:30 PM
Richard Cohen, an Emmy- and Peabody-winning journalist and the husband of former 'TODAY' show anchor Meredith Vieira, died on Christmas Eve at the age of 76 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. Cohen, who was diagnosed with MS at the age of 25, also survived two bouts of colon cancer. The couple, married for 38 years since 1986, had three children together: Benjamin, Gabriel, and Lily. Cohen was a respected journalist, having worked as a senior producer for CBS News and CNN, and was known for his openness about his health struggles, which he discussed publicly, including on the 'TODAY' show. Vieira was informed of his MS diagnosis on their second date, and she remained a steadfast supporter throughout their marriage. Following his death, Vieira is reported to be in good spirits, surrounded by family and love during Cohen's final days.
