Kenyan Court Orders Ksh 10 Million Compensation for Family of Slain Pakistani Journalist
Jul 8, 2024, 12:55 PM
The High Court of Kenya has ruled that the shooting of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif by Kenyan police in 2022 was unconstitutional. The court ordered the Government of Kenya to pay Sharif's widow and family Ksh 10 million as compensation. The court found that Sharif was subjected to torture and that the Attorney General could not escape responsibility. Sharif, known for his criticism of Pakistan's military and political corruption, fled to Kenya seeking refuge but was killed in Kajiado County in an incident the court termed as mistaken identity.
