Southwest Flight to Hobby Airport Evacuated at Denver After Cellphone Battery Fire, 108 Passengers Affected

Passengers on a Southwest Airlines flight bound for Hobby Airport in Houston were evacuated after a passenger’s cellphone battery caught fire while the plane was at a gate at Denver International Airport on Friday. The fire, which also ignited an airplane seat, prompted the evacuation of all 108 passengers using the emergency slide. Airline officials confirmed that the incident occurred Friday morning, and no serious injuries were reported. However, two people sustained minor injuries. FAA data indicates that such incidents are not isolated.
