President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to fire federal employees who do not return to in-office work, criticizing a recent labor contract negotiated by the Biden administration. This contract, which extends remote work arrangements for Social Security Administration employees until 2029, was described by Trump as a 'gift to the union.' He plans to challenge this agreement in court, arguing that it is 'ridiculous' to allow federal workers to continue teleworking. Trump made these comments during a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, emphasizing that if employees do not return to the office, they will face dismissal. The deal, signed by Martin O'Malley before his resignation from the Social Security Administration, allows for employees to work remotely two to five days a week, depending on their roles. This policy has been under scrutiny by Trump's newly created Department of Government Efficiency, led by billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who aim to reduce government spending by $2 trillion.
