Thailand has launched an investigation into banks allegedly linked to transactions for arms purchases by Myanmar's junta. The Thai government will meet next week with commercial banks and state agencies to scrutinize these transactions and urge tighter controls. A report by the UN special rapporteur on human rights in Myanmar indicates that there is no evidence suggesting that Thai banks were aware of the involvement in military equipment procurement for Myanmar's junta.
