Argentina Condemns Venezuelan Siege of Embassy Sheltering María Corina Machado's Team
Nov 24, 2024, 01:51 AM
On November 23, Venezuelan security forces reportedly surrounded the Argentine embassy in Caracas, which is under Brazilian protection, where members of opposition leader María Corina Machado's team, including activist Edmundo González Urrutia, are seeking refuge. Reports indicate that hooded officers from the Venezuelan police, including units from the DAET, PNB, and SEBIN, have been blocking access to the embassy, deploying drones, and cutting mobile signals and electricity services to the building. The Government of Argentina has condemned the "harassment" and "intimidation" against the opposition members sheltered in its embassy and is demanding safe conduct for them. Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States, called the siege unacceptable and contrary to international law, urging respect for the asylum rights of the opposition members.
