New Zealand Accuses Canada of Spying via Drone; Canadian Staffer Detained in France
Jul 24, 2024, 12:50 AM
The New Zealand women's soccer team has accused Canada Soccer of spying on their training session in St. Étienne using a drone. The incident occurred on Monday ahead of their match in the Paris 2024 Olympics. A non-accredited member of Canada Soccer's support team was detained in France by French authorities following the complaint. The New Zealand team has lodged an official complaint with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which is now being reviewed by the IOC's integrity unit. The Canadian Olympic Committee has issued a heartfelt apology and is discussing the next steps with the IOC, Paris 2024 organizers, Canada Soccer, and FIFA. The two teams are set to face each other on Thursday morning at 11 ET.
