Ukraine Urges Sanctions After Western Parts Found in North Korean Missile Used by Russia
Oct 20, 2024, 03:59 PM
Ukrainian officials have reported that a North Korean KN-23/24 missile, shot down over Ukraine on September 7, contained numerous recently manufactured Western-made components, including semiconductors and other electronic parts from countries such as Switzerland, the US, the UK, and the Netherlands. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has called on Western allies to respond decisively by tightening sanctions and export controls, and boosting Ukraine's air defense capabilities, to prevent Russia and North Korea from accessing these parts. President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused North Korea of forming a "criminal alliance" with Russia, becoming a de facto participant in the war by supplying military personnel and workers for factories, as well as exchanging satellite and missile technology. He urged global leaders to confront this new threat.
