VisitWaymo Removes Waitlist, Opens Driverless Taxi Service to All in San Francisco
Jun 25, 2024, 03:15 PM
Waymo, the autonomous vehicle division of Alphabet, has officially opened its driverless taxi service, Waymo One, to all residents and visitors in San Francisco. This significant expansion removes the previous waitlist requirement, allowing anyone to hail a ride using the Waymo app. The service, which began its commercial test operations in August, has now become widely accessible, marking a major step forward in the deployment of autonomous driving technology. Waymo's robotaxis have been a common sight in San Francisco, and this move is expected to increase their presence on the city's streets. Waymo has 700-ish driverless vehicles in cities including San Francisco, Phoenix, and Austin, with their car of choice being the Jaguar.
