Oct 24, 2024, 10:35 PM
Amir Abdur-Rahim, the head coach of the University of South Florida (USF) men's basketball team, has died at the age of 43 due to complications during a medical procedure in Tampa. Recognized as one of the brightest young coaches in college basketball, Abdur-Rahim successfully turned around programs at both Kennesaw State and USF. He led Kennesaw State from a 1-28 record to an NCAA Tournament appearance in four years. In his first season at USF, he guided the team from eighth place to a 25-8 record and a regular-season championship in the American Athletic Conference. Prior to his head coaching roles, Abdur-Rahim served as an assistant under Tom Crean at Georgia, where he helped sign Anthony Edwards. He is the younger brother of former NBA player Shareef Abdur-Rahim and is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.
