USDOT Investigates Delta After 5,000 Flight Cancellations Over Four Days Due to CrowdStrike Outage
Jul 23, 2024, 03:30 PM
The U.S. Department of Transportation has opened an investigation into Delta Air Lines following a global technology outage caused by a CrowdStrike software update. Since the outage began on Friday, Delta has canceled more than 5,000 flights, leading to widespread disruptions and customer service failures. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced the investigation on social media, emphasizing the need to ensure Delta is taking care of its passengers. The airline continues to struggle with cancellations and delays, with over 400 flights canceled on Tuesday alone. The disruptions have persisted for four days, and the USDOT is keen to see if Delta's response complies with federal rules. On Tuesday, Delta canceled more than 12% of its total flight schedule.
