Biden and Zelensky to Sign 10-Year US-Ukraine Security Agreement at G7 Summit
Jun 12, 2024, 03:36 PM
The United States and Ukraine are set to sign a bilateral security agreement on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy on Thursday. President Joe Biden and President Volodymyr Zelensky will sign the pact, confirmed by U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. The agreement outlines a 10-year commitment from the U.S. to support Ukraine's armed forces through training, cooperation in weapons production, continued military assistance, and enhanced intelligence sharing. The deal aims to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities and deter future aggression, sending a signal of U.S. resolve. However, it will not commit U.S. troops to Ukraine. Additionally, the agreement could provide some $50 billion to Ukraine, using profits from frozen Russian assets. The deal signifies a long-term security relationship between Washington and Kyiv but could be subject to changes by future U.S. administrations.
