Chinese Hackers Access Yellen's Computer, Breach 400 Treasury Devices and 3,000 Files
Jan 16, 2025, 11:36 PM
Chinese state-sponsored hackers breached the US Treasury Department, infiltrating over 400 computers and accessing more than 3,000 unclassified files, according to an agency report reviewed by Bloomberg News. The attackers targeted the devices of staff and senior leaders focused on sanctions, international affairs, and intelligence. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's computer was among those accessed in the cyberattack. The hackers used a Work-From-Home application to infiltrate the systems. Classified data and email systems remained secure, officials said. The breach underscores growing cybersecurity risks and tensions in US-China relations.
