Mike Johnson Indicates Potential Repeal of Bipartisan CHIPS Act if GOP Wins House, Walks Back Statement
Nov 1, 2024, 09:36 PM
Republican Speaker Mike Johnson has indicated that he and former President Donald Trump would seek to repeal the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act if Republicans retain control of the House. The CHIPS Act, which has bipartisan support, is designed to invest in new plants and manufacturing in states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, and Arizona, creating thousands of jobs. However, Johnson later walked back his statement, saying that the CHIPS Act is not on the agenda for repeal and apologized profusely, claiming he misheard the question.
