Germany Arrests Two German-Russian Nationals for Espionage, Planning Explosive Attacks
Apr 18, 2024, 07:30 AM
German authorities have arrested two German-Russian nationals suspected of espionage and plotting sabotage attacks on behalf of Russian intelligence. The suspects, arrested in Bayreuth, are accused of photographing U.S. military bases in Germany and planning explosive and arson attacks on military transport routes that support Ukraine. These actions were intended to undermine military aid provided by Germany to Ukraine. The main accused, a 39-year-old man named Dieter S., had previously fought in eastern Ukraine from 2014 to 2016 and is in contact with Russian intelligence. Following the arrests, Germany's Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to address the situation.
