The Federal Reserve's latest data reveals that US household net worth surged by $5.117 trillion in the first quarter of 2024, reaching a record $160.8 trillion. This increase marks the largest gain since the second quarter of 2023 and is primarily driven by a significant rise in the value of Americans' stock holdings. The prior quarter saw a revised down increase of $3.954 trillion. Additionally, household net debt grew by $140 billion, or 2.9%, while nonfinancial business debt increased at a 4.0% pace, reflecting robust net issuance of debt securities.
