VisitASML and TSMC Can Disable Advanced EUV Chip Machines if China Invades Taiwan, Sources Say
May 21, 2024, 07:39 AM
ASML and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) have developed mechanisms to remotely disable their advanced chip-making machines in the event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, sources say. This capability, which includes shutting off advanced EUV lithography machines, has been reassured to both Dutch and U.S. officials. ASML, the sole manufacturer of EUV machines, has conducted simulations to assess the risks associated with a potential invasion. These measures are a response to concerns raised by U.S. officials about the security of high-end semiconductor production in Taiwan.
