US Inflation in September Exceeds Expectations with CPI at 2.4% YoY, Core CPI at 3.3%
Oct 10, 2024, 06:00 AM
US inflation in September rose more than expected, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increasing by 2.4% year-over-year, above the forecast of 2.3% and down from 2.5% in the previous month. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, climbed to 3.3% year-over-year, exceeding expectations of 3.2% and up from 3.2% previously. On a monthly basis, CPI rose 0.2%, higher than the expected 0.1% and matching the prior month's increase of 0.2%. Core CPI rose 0.3% month-over-month, surpassing the forecast of 0.2% and matching the previous month's increase. The higher-than-expected inflation figures have raised concerns about potential impacts on monetary policy and financial markets.
