U.S. Condemns North Korea's Record-Height ICBM Test, South Korea Imposes Sanctions
Oct 31, 2024, 03:20 AM
The United States has condemned North Korea's recent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test, which landed in the Sea of Japan. The White House described the launch as a 'flagrant breach' of multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions and pledged to use 'all necessary measures' to ensure the security of South Korea and Japan. South Korea's President Yoon Seok-yeol has called for a 'strong response' and announced fresh sanctions on North Korea. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un defended the missile test as an appropriate military activity, intended to demonstrate resolve against adversaries. The missile reached a record height and was the longest-ever ballistic missile test towards waters off North Korea's eastern coast. U.S. officials confirmed the launch to Reuters, and the White House National Security Council condemned the action. The Korean Central News Agency released a statement from Kim Jong Un.
