Emerson Poll: 41% of Young Voters Find UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's Killing by Luigi Mangione Acceptable
Dec 17, 2024, 08:30 PM
A recent Emerson College poll has revealed a striking divide among young voters on the acceptability of the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The survey found that 41% of voters aged 18-29 consider the killing acceptable, slightly more than the 40% who view it as unacceptable. This sentiment contrasts sharply with older demographics, where support for the killing drops significantly. The poll also highlighted a partisan split, with 22% of Democrats finding the killing acceptable compared to 12% of Republicans and 16% of independents. Overall, 68% of respondents rejected the killer's actions. Within the 18-29 age group, 24% found the killing somewhat acceptable, and 17% found it completely acceptable, while 19% remained neutral. Men were more likely to find the actions acceptable at 19%, compared to 14% of women. Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old, was arrested in connection with Thompson's murder, which occurred on December 4 in New York City. The incident has sparked widespread discussion and has been met with varied reactions, particularly among younger demographics online.
