Oct 11, 2024, 09:38 AM
International condemnation has mounted following reports that Israeli forces fired upon the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon. EU chief Charles Michel condemned the attacks on UN peace operations, while China expressed grave concerns and strong condemnation over the incident, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stating that any deliberate attacks on peacekeepers are severe. Italy's Defense Minister Guido Crosetto also strongly condemned Israel's actions, suggesting they could constitute a war crime and represent a very serious violation of international humanitarian law. Human rights advocate Ken Roth noted that deliberate attacks on UN peacekeepers and their facilities are war crimes. China has demanded an investigation into the attacks, emphasizing that any attack targeting UN peacekeepers is absolutely unacceptable.
