May 22, 2024, 06:35 AM
Ireland, Norway, and Spain have announced their formal recognition of Palestine as an independent state, based on the 1967 borders. The coordinated announcements were made on Wednesday, with Norway's recognition set to take effect on May 28. The decision follows discussions between Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere emphasized that the recognition aligns with international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. Slovenia is also considering recognition, and Belgium and France are in play. In response, Israel has recalled its ambassadors from Ireland and Norway for consultations.
