UK Confirms June 2025 Ban on Disposable Vapes to Curb Youth Addiction and Waste
Oct 24, 2024, 08:11 AM
The UK government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has announced that disposable vapes will be banned across the UK from June 1, 2025, in an effort to prevent children from becoming addicted to vaping and to address environmental concerns. The legislation to prohibit the sale and supply of single-use vapes has been laid out in Parliament and confirmed by Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy. The ban comes amid rising youth vaping rates and the environmental impact of approximately five million vapes discarded weekly in the UK. Jim Bethell, a member of the House of Lords, commented on the decision, stating, "Disposable vapes do offer cigarette smokers a good way out of their addiction. But the vape industry messed this up, trying to create a massive new nicotine addiction industry by pushing them at kids. I regret such a ban, but this is the inevitable and correct response." The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) confirmed the ban, emphasizing the need to protect children's health and reduce environmental harm.
