Uber Proposes 6.1% Cut in NYC Driver Pay to $1.277 Amid Lower Gas Prices
Nov 4, 2024, 06:46 PM
Uber is proposing a reduction in the base pay rate for its drivers in New York City. The ride-hailing company is asking the city's Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) to cut the driver pay rate per mile by 6.1%, from $1.360 to $1.277. Uber cites a 38% drop in gas prices since the 2022 highs as the rationale for this proposal. The company believes that lower per-mile rates could help keep rides more affordable and boost demand in one of its largest markets. A recent report also highlighted that NYC Uber drivers earn more than city EMTs.
