Suspicious Substance Leads to Lockdown at Kari Lake's Phoenix Campaign Office; Deemed Non-Hazardous
Oct 22, 2024, 08:56 PM
Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake's campaign office in Phoenix was evacuated on Tuesday after a staff member opened an envelope containing a suspicious substance. Local police, fire, and hazmat teams, deploying hazmat suits, responded to the scene near 40th Street and Camelback Road, and the office was placed on lockdown. Roads in the area were closed during the investigation. Lake stated that the envelope potentially contained anthrax and described the incident as an attempt to intimidate and silence her, saying, "I won't be intimidated." However, Phoenix Police later reported that the substance was deemed non-hazardous. The staff member who opened the envelope was reported to be nervous but unharmed.
