Groundbreaking Study: Mice Regain Smell Using Rat Neurons
Apr 25, 2024, 07:30 PM
In a series of groundbreaking experiments, scientists have successfully regenerated brain neural pathways in mice using stem cells derived from rats. This research has enabled mice to acquire the ability to sense odors, a capability they did not previously possess. The experiments focused on integrating rat neurons into the hippocampus, the memory center of the mouse brain, allowing these modified mice to detect smells as rats do. Notably, mice with no inherent sense of smell were able to sniff out hidden cookies, demonstrating the functional success of the neural integration.
