Poland and Ukraine Establish New Ukrainian Legion with Hundreds of Applicants
Jul 9, 2024, 11:24 PM
Poland has agreed to establish a Ukrainian Legion under a new security pact with Ukraine, allowing volunteers to join on Polish soil. This initiative aims to encourage Ukrainian citizens, especially those who fled to European Union countries, to return and serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has called on Ukrainians living in Europe to join the new legion. Despite some skepticism about the willingness of Ukrainian citizens to participate, with Igor Korotchenko of National Defense magazine expressing doubts, Polish media reports indicate that the legion already has 'hundreds' of applicants. Unlike other legions in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, this legion will be composed solely of Ukrainians.
