Titans Hire Chiefs' Mike Borgonzi as GM to Oversee First Overall Draft Pick
Jan 17, 2025, 07:57 PM
The Tennessee Titans have selected Mike Borgonzi, the assistant general manager from the Kansas City Chiefs, as their new general manager. Borgonzi, who has been with the Chiefs since 2009 and was promoted to assistant GM in 2021 after 16 seasons with the team, emerged as the top choice after a series of interviews with multiple candidates. The Titans conducted in-person interviews with six finalists, including Ian Cunningham from the Chicago Bears, John Spytek from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Jon-Eric Sullivan from the Green Bay Packers. Borgonzi's appointment comes after the Titans fired Ran Carthon, who had served as GM for two years, during which the team went 9-25 and finished the most recent season with a 3-14 record. The new GM will work alongside president of football operations Chad Brinker, who has final authority on football matters. Borgonzi's first major task will be managing the team's first overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, a decision that will set the tone for his tenure in Tennessee. The Titans, who ranked 26th in total offense and 30th in points allowed last season, are projected to have about 44 million in cap space. Borgonzi was a key figure in the Chiefs' success, having won three Super Bowls during his time there.
