Florida Stuns No. 1 Tennessee 73-43 in 30-Point Upset, Ending Vols' Unbeaten Run
Jan 8, 2025, 01:49 AM
No. 8 Florida delivered a historic 73-43 victory over No. 1 Tennessee in Gainesville, marking the Volunteers' first loss of the season and ending their unbeaten streak. The Gators' dominant performance, led by Alijah Martin with 18 points and Alex Condon with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, showcased their defensive prowess. Florida held Tennessee to just 21.4% shooting from the field and 13.8% from three-point range (4-for-29), while out-rebounding the Vols 55-37. The Gators dominated with 40-14 points in the paint and 22-3 in fast-break points, building a game-high 36-point lead during the second half. Tennessee's leading scorer, Chaz Lanier, was limited to 10 points, well below his season average. The loss was Tennessee's most lopsided defeat as a No. 1 team since 1968, and it marked Florida's first-ever home win against a top-ranked opponent. Florida improved to 14-1 overall and 1-1 in SEC play, while Tennessee fell to the same record. The Gators' victory also extended their home winning streak to 16 games.
