Taiwan Receives First Batch of 11 HIMARS Amid Rising Tensions with China
Nov 4, 2024, 07:26 AM
Seventeen Taiwanese soldiers have completed training on the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, alongside troops from Romania and Estonia. Taiwan is set to receive a total of 29 HIMARS from the United States, with deliveries expected between late 2024 and 2026. In October, the first batch of 11 HIMARS arrived in Taiwan, marking a significant step in the island's defense capabilities. This transfer is part of a broader Foreign Military Sales case that includes 64 ATACMS, with an additional 18 HIMARS, 20 ATACMS, and 144 M31A2 GMLRS Unitary Pods added to the order. The United States and South Korea have expressed concerns over China's recent large-scale military exercises around Taiwan, which have heightened regional tensions.
