Dec 11, 2024, 11:12 AM
Afghan Minister of Refugees Khalil Haqqani has been killed in a suspected suicide bombing inside the Ministry of Refugees in central Kabul. The blast occurred on Wednesday afternoon as Haqqani was leaving a mosque within the ministry's compound during a meeting. Haqqani, who was on the UN Sanctions List and had previously overseen security in Kabul after the Taliban takeover, was the uncle of Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani and a prominent member of the Haqqani family. Several of his bodyguards and at least ten others were also killed. The nature of the explosion remains unknown, and no group has yet claimed responsibility. Taliban officials have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
