Aug 27, 2024, 10:15 AM
Ukrainian forces have made significant advances in Russia's Kursk region, capturing 594 Russian soldiers and taking control of 100 settlements, according to Ukraine's top commander, Oleksandr Syrsky. The Ukrainian military now controls 1,294 square kilometers in the region. The offensive, announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, began earlier this month and has seen Ukrainian forces advance up to 3 kilometers in some areas. The captured Russian soldiers are expected to be used in exchanges for Ukrainian prisoners of war. In response to Ukraine's incursion, Russia has redeployed 30,000 troops to the Kursk region from other parts of Ukraine.
