VisitZelensky Proposes Ceasefire with NATO Membership for Controlled Areas, Seeks Diplomatic Return of Occupied Regions
Nov 29, 2024, 07:34 PM
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested that a ceasefire could be achieved if Ukraine were granted NATO membership for the territory it currently controls, even if Russia does not immediately return occupied regions. In an interview with Sky News reporter Stuart Ramsay, Zelensky stated, "If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we need to take the territory of Ukraine which is under our control under the NATO umbrella." He emphasized the urgency of the situation, adding, "We need to do it fast. And then regarding the occupied territory of Ukraine, we can get them back in a diplomatic way." Zelensky acknowledged that occupied areas might need to be addressed diplomatically later but stressed that any NATO invitation should recognize Ukraine's internationally recognized borders. This marks a significant shift in his approach to ending the conflict with Russia.
