VisitYunus-Led Bangladesh Government Lifts Hasina-Imposed Ban on Jamaat-e-Islami
Aug 28, 2024, 10:37 AM
Bangladesh's interim government, led by Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, has lifted the ban on the country's main Islamic party, Jamaat-e-Islami, and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir. The ban, initially imposed by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's regime on August 1, was revoked on Wednesday. The decision was formalized through a notification issued by the home ministry, following the interim government's statement that it found no evidence of the party's involvement in terrorist activities. This move allows Jamaat-e-Islami to re-enter the political arena ahead of the general elections.
