VisitYoung Thug Pleads Guilty in YSL RICO Case, Sentenced to 15 Years Probation and Released
Oct 31, 2024, 09:26 PM
Rapper Young Thug, born Jeffery Williams, pleaded guilty to gang, drug, and gun charges and no contest to a RICO charge in the YSL trial in Georgia. Under Judge Paige Reese Whitaker, Williams accepted a non-negotiated plea deal after spending over two years in custody, ending his role in the state's longest-running trial. The state had initially recommended a 45-year sentence with 25 years to serve, but the judge sentenced Williams to 40 years, with the first five years commuted to time served, followed by 15 years of probation. An additional 20 years are backloaded and will be served if he violates probation. The plea deal includes fines totaling $40,000 and banishment from the Metro Atlanta area for 10 years. Williams is expected to be released today. Reports indicate that he declined an earlier plea deal that would have allowed immediate release on 15 years probation due to his refusal to testify against co-defendants. During court proceedings, Williams requested permission to maintain contact with his biological brother and fellow artist Gunna, with whom he frequently collaborates. The resolution comes after several co-defendants accepted plea deals earlier in the week.
