VisitYankees Sign Max Fried to Record 8-Year, $218M Deal, Largest Ever for Left-Hander
Dec 10, 2024, 10:51 PM
Max Fried, a 31-year-old left-handed pitcher, has agreed pending a physical to an eight-year, $218 million contract with the New York Yankees, according to multiple reports. This deal represents the largest guarantee in baseball history for a left-handed pitcher and is the fourth-largest pitching contract ever. Fried, previously with the Atlanta Braves, was pursued by the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays before choosing the Yankees. The contract averages $27.25 million per year and will extend until Fried is 39 years old if there are no opt-outs or buyouts. The Yankees consider Fried an elite left-hander who will strengthen their rotation.
