VisitXi Meets Biden at Lima APEC, Announces China Hosting in 2026, Ready to Work with Trump
Nov 16, 2024, 11:10 PM
Chinese President Xi Jinping announced on Saturday during the 31st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima, Peru, that China will host the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2026. On the sidelines of the summit, Xi met with U.S. President Joe Biden in what is expected to be their final meeting before the U.S. administration changes hands. Xi told Biden that China is "ready to work with a new administration" and expressed his readiness to collaborate with the incoming Trump administration to manage U.S.-China differences and avoid decoupling. He acknowledged that China-U.S. relations over the past four years have "gone through ups and downs." Biden raised concerns over China's support for Russia's military activities, including aid from North Korea, and emphasized the importance of dissuading North Korea from further deepening its support for Russia's war on Ukraine and maintaining stability in the Taiwan Strait. Both leaders agreed on the need to bear in mind the interests of the global community and to inject more certainty and positive energy into a turbulent world.
