VisitXander Schauffele Ties Major Record with 62 at Valhalla, Leads PGA Championship by 3
May 16, 2024, 05:18 PM
Xander Schauffele made history during the first round of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club by shooting a 62, which ties the lowest round ever in the history of major golf championships. This score also sets a new Valhalla Golf Club record and marks the lowest round in PGA Championship history. Schauffele, who leads the tournament by three strokes, had previously shot a 62 at the U.S. Open in 2023. His performance caused Scottie Scheffler's odds to shift from +400 to +600 before Scheffler even teed off. Schauffele was 7 under thru 13 holes and narrowly missed a birdie on the final hole that would have given him a 61. He shares the record for the lowest round in a major with Rickie Fowler and Branden Grace. Schauffele expressed modesty about his achievement, noting, 'It's just Thursday. That's about it.'
