VisitWirtz and Reinsdorf Families Announce $7 Billion Near West Side Development Around United Center Starting Spring 2025
Jul 23, 2024, 02:00 PM
The Wirtz and Reinsdorf families, owners of the United Center, have announced a $7 billion project to transform the Near West Side area around the arena in Chicago. The development will cover 55 acres and include mixed-income housing, a 6,000-seat music hall, green spaces, a parking facility, a hotel, and retail programming. The project, set to begin in Spring 2025, is touted as the largest private investment in the city's West Side. The plans also feature a one-of-a-kind elevated park and aim to improve the pedestrian experience. The families plan to finance the project mostly privately, although Reinsdorf is seeking government support for a new White Sox stadium.
