VisitWimbledon to Replace Line Judges with AI Technology in 2025, Ending 147-Year Tradition
Oct 9, 2024, 11:30 AM
Wimbledon has announced a significant change for the 2025 Championships, replacing human line judges with an automated electronic line calling (ELC) system powered by AI technology. This decision marks the end of a 147-year tradition at the All England Club. The new system will be implemented on all 18 match courts, including Centre Court. The move aligns Wimbledon with other major tennis tournaments that have adopted similar technology, leaving the French Open as the only Grand Slam still using human line judges. The ELC system, which will replace 300 officials, was tested during the 2024 tournament and will be fully operational from 2025.
