VisitWFP Halts Gaza Operations After IDF Fires 10 Bullets at Vehicle
Aug 28, 2024, 07:08 PM
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has temporarily suspended all movements across the Gaza Strip following an incident where one of its clearly marked vehicles was fired upon. The vehicle, which was part of a convoy returning from a mission to the Kerem Shalom crossing, was struck by at least 10 bullets near an Israeli military checkpoint at the Wadi Gaza bridge. The attack occurred on the evening of August 27, 2024, and involved the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). UN Spokesperson Steph Dujarric confirmed that the vehicle, fully coordinated with Israel, had two UN staff members on board. In response, the WFP announced a halt to its operations in Gaza until further notice to ensure the safety of its employees.
