VisitWestern Countries Pass IAEA Resolution Censuring Iran with 19 Votes, Russia and China Oppose
Nov 21, 2024, 08:55 PM
Western countries, including European powers and the United States, have introduced and passed a resolution at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors meeting, censuring Iran for its lack of cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog. The resolution, which was approved with 19 votes in favor, 3 against (including Russia, China, and Burkina Faso), and 12 abstentions, calls for Iran to urgently improve its cooperation with the IAEA. Tehran has warned of a 'proportionate' response if the resolution passes and criticized the 'unjustified stance' of Western countries. The resolution also requests the IAEA to produce a comprehensive report on Iran by spring 2025.
