VisitWalmart, World's Largest Retailer, Cuts DEI Programs Including $100M Equity Center
Nov 26, 2024, 12:59 PM
Walmart Inc., the world's largest retailer, is rolling back several of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives amid pressure from conservative activists. The company announced plans to end funding for its $100 million Center for Racial Equity by June 2025 and will remove the term 'Latinx' from its communications. Walmart will also review funding of all Pride events and remove inappropriate sexual and transgender products marketed to children from its stores. Additionally, the retailer will discontinue its Racial Equity Training programs and will no longer consider race and gender when vetting and hiring attorneys, suppliers, and other third-party professionals. This move positions Walmart as the largest corporation to scale back DEI policies, joining a growing list of companies retreating from such initiatives.
